Beaucoup d'anglophones ont appris que me sonne impoli : ils disent donc John and I partout, même quand c'est faux. Un test rapide règle la question.
La réponse courte #
- I est un sujet : il fait l'action (comme « je »). I called Anna.
- Me est un complément : il reçoit l'action ou suit une préposition (comme « me » ou « moi »). Anna called me.
Le test : retirez l'autre personne #
Supprimez l'autre personne et regardez quel mot fonctionne seul.
John and ___ went to the meeting. → I went ✓ → John and I went to the meeting.
The manager thanked John and ___. → thanked me ✓ → The manager thanked John and me.
This is between you and ___. → between me ✓ → between you and me.
« Between you and I » est toujours incorrect #
Après une préposition (between, with, for, to, from), utilisez me :
- between you and me
- for Sarah and me
- with my team and me
Quand « myself » est de trop #
Myself n'est correct que si I est aussi le sujet de la phrase, ou pour insister.
- ✓ I made it myself.
- ✓ I taught myself to code.
- ✗
Please contact John or myself.→ Please contact John or me.
Une question de politesse #
Par tradition, on se cite en dernier : Anna and I, Anna and me, et non I and Anna.
